What is the legal requirement for businesses?
The law states that all business owners, directors and employees comply with 'The Electricity at Work Regulations'.
The law requires that all electrical systems must be maintained to be safe;
"All systems to be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, danger"
Why do I have to have my wiring tested?
Fixed wiring testing will accurately identify faults, their locations and usually the recommended solution. Electricity will always find the easiest path to earth. Any faults or weaknesses within your installation or appliances can go undetected but can result in injury or fire.
Will testing cause disruption to the power?
A short loss of power will be required on each circuit throughout the testing process. This can be arranged around your daily activities as required.
Is an Electrical Installation test a legal requirement?
The law does not state that an electrical installation test is carried out on the premises, it does however state that you have a legal requirement to ensure the entire electrical system safe at all times. Usually your insurers will insist on certification to ensure compliance.
How often would you recommend a period inspection test?
The IEE guidance suggests the following testing;
• Domestic: 5 Years
• Rented Accommodation/Commercial: 5 Years
• Industrial, Agricultural and Horticultural: 3 Years
• Places subject to entertainment license (Swimming Pools/Caravan Parks): 1 Year
Depending on your Risk Assessment or Condition of installation on testing these times may be reduced.
