Trace Heating - Frequently Asked Questions
What is trace heating?
Trace heating cables provide focused and controllable heat to prevent pipes from freezing.
How does trace heating work?
Trace heating cables are made up of heating elements placed between two bus wires, one live and one neutral. When power is connected to the bus wires the heating element receives 230v and begin to heat up. This cable is then placed around pipes.
Can trace heating over heat?
No, this is one of the major benefits of trace heating, the cables self-regulate their temperature so there is no possibility of them overheating.
Can trace heating be used on a sprinkler system?
Yes, it is recommended that all water based sprinkler systems have frost protection, installing trace heating to these pipes is the perfect way to protect them.
How is trace heating controlled?
Trace heating is controlled by a 20amp thermostat that comes with a metal bracket so it can be installed on top of the pipework the system is installed on.
What lengths do the heating cables come in?
Trace heating cables can be cut to length when purchased, they are also available in 11x/11m lengths.
