Ventilation Solutions from Terry Baker Electrical Contractor
Damp and Condensation
In an effort to increase efficiency and reduce energy bills, homes have become more air tight with the introduction of draught excluding devices, additional loft and cavity wall insulation. The result can mean that there is often no natural air flow through the building, so it can be impossible for damp, stale air to escape the property. This can lead to condensation and mould growth which can be damaging, unsightly and hazardous to health.
At Terry Baker Electrical Contractor we have a wide range of products available to help find a solution for different types of condensation or damp problems whether in a single room or throughout the whole property.
Extractor Fans
All of our standard local extractor fans use the latest technologies, to provide extremely powerful and almost silent ventilation perfect for any wetrooms. Local extract fans are commonly located in a property’s wet rooms (EG: Bathroom, Kitchen, WC) and provide an extraction of moisture and pollutants., almost immediately. Combined with a fresh vent system in the habitable rooms, you will have a constant flow of fresh air within your home. It is important that the correct fan is installed to comply with the current Building Regulations.
Positive Input Ventilation (PIV)
Positive input ventilation units are a very sophisticated whole house ventilation and condensation control system that are designed to gently ventilate the building from a central position on the landing of the house or the central hallway of a flat or bungalow. The ventilation unit provides a subtle air supply throughout the house to transform a stagnant stale atmosphere into a fresh, healthy, condensation free home. With a very energy efficient heater, the fan doesn’t make the property cold when the outside temperature is cold in the winter. By using a sensor the fan intelligently knows when to operate the heater depending on the outside temperature.
Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR)
An MVHR system is considered to be the most energy efficient method of providing balanced ventilation in newly constructed dwellings.
Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR) is a ventilation system designed for an entire property that extracts stale air and replaces it with warmed fresh air. Fresh air is continuously drawn into the home via a low energy ventilation unit, located in the roof space/utility area of your home. The ventilation unit filters the incoming air to remove pollutants and insects. Once passed through the heat exchanger within the ventilation power unit, the warm, clean, fresh filtered air is distributed around the home through a series of ducts, strategically placed in each habitable room, living room, bedroom etc.
The air from wet rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, wc’s, utility areas etc is continuously extracted and filtered back through the ventilation unit. Up to 95% of the heat from the extracted air is transferred to the fresh incoming air.
The system provides low energy, balanced continuous ventilation without the need for extractor fans or window vents, ensuring a draught-free living environment. The constant flow of clean filtered air can help reduce the symptoms of asthma and allergies, and stops surface condensation therefore eliminating mould and mildew almost entirely.
MVHR systems should be installed by a BPEC qualified installer. It is vital the system is installed and commissioned following strict guidelines.
